Raiders Darren McFadden JerseyUpdatedAug 28, 2011 12:24 AM ETAntonio Brown has been the Steelers' most impressive playerduring the preseason.Tonight, he was the best player at Heinz Field. And that is saying something considering how easy BenRoethlisberger and Matt Ryan made it look at times while playingpitch-and-catch in front of an announced crowd 56,754.The Pro Bowl-caliber quarterbacks combined for 434 yards in thefirst half of the Steelers' 34-16 win against theAtlanta Falcons. The difference between the two, as the Steelers staked themselves to a24-16 lead, may have been this: Roethlisberger had Brown, who hasclearly established himself as the Steelers' No. 3 wide receiver.Brown caught four passes for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also set up the Steelers' other touchdown in thefirst half when he returned the opening kickoff 51 yards."I'll just continue to get better and improve day in and dayout," Brown said. "You can see the results just pan out."Brown made one of his few mistakes of the preseason near the endof a 77-yard catch-and-run when he was flagged for taunting aFalcons' defender on the way into the end zone. The 5-foot-10, 186-pounder then looked anything but gracefulwhen he attempted to leap into the stands in the corner of thesouth end zone.If his play during the preseason carries over, Brown will getplenty of chances to improve upon his end-zone celebrations."He's a really good football player," Roethlisberger said. "He'sgot good instincts."Brown wasn't the only second-year player that had a big nightfor the Steelers (2-1). Cornerback CrezdonButler, seeing his first extended action of the preseason, returnedan interception 95 yards for a touchdown early in the fourthquarter. That gave the Steelers a 15-point cushion and mayhave moved Butler off the bubble as far as making the 53-manroster.Last night amounted to the Steelers' final dress rehearsalbefore their Sept. 11 season opener in Baltimore, and it producedmixed results.Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons showed why the Steelers recently signed him to afive-year, $60 million contract, as his 44-yard interception in thefirst quarter led to a short Shaun Suisham field goal ? one thatgave the Steelers an early 10-0 lead.Roethlisberger, meanwhile, carved up the Falcons before callingit a night after a half ? albeit a long one in which he and Ryancombined for 58 throws. The downside for the Steelers could be summed up by asequence at the beginning of the second quarter.A breakdown in special teams allowed Eric Weems to return a punt48 yards. The Falcons promptly spread out the Steelers' defense, and Ryan made itlook easy in marching 38 yards in eight plays."I don't think we did a good job," outside linebacker LaMarrWoodley said on the pressure the Steelers got on Ryan. "I know, afew times, I lost contain and allowed him to roll outside thepocket. That hurts the team."The Steelers answered Ryan's 10-yardtouchdown pass to Roddy White with Brown's 77-yard touchdownreception. Brown capped his big night by catching a 44-yardtouchdown pass from Roethlisberger in traffic. In three preseason games, Browns has nine receptions for 227yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers have one more preseasongame ? Thursday at the Carolina Panthers ? but the starters aren'texpected to play more than a series.Anquan Boldin Jersey White, Reebok Anquan Boldin Jersey, NFL Anquan Boldin Jersey, Anquan Boldin Jersey Womens, Anquan Boldin Jersey 81, Ravens Anquan Boldin Jersey, Bears Anquan Boldin Authentic Jersey, Bears Anquan Boldin Premier Jersey, Bears Anquan Boldin Replica Jersey, Authentic Anquan Boldin Jersey Black, Reebok Darren McFadden Jersey, NFL Darren McFadden Jersey, Darren McFadden Jersey Womens, Darren McFadden Jersey 20, Darren McFadden Stitched Jersey, Raiders Darren McFadden Jersey, Raiders Darren McFadden Authentic Jersey, Raiders Darren McFadden Premier Jersey, Raiders Darren McFadden Replica Jersey, Authentic Darren McFadden Jersey Black, Bears Brian Urlacher Authentic JerseyUpdatedAug 28, 2011 2:14 AM ETDENVER (AP)Not to jump the gun ...The Denver Broncos think they have an answer to the NFL's mostfeared pass-rushing tandem of Pro Bowlers Dwight Freeney and RobertMathis in Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller.''Fastest dudes I done seen off the ball,'' Broncos middlelinebacker Joe Mays said after watching them sandwich TarvarisJackson all night in Denver's 23-20 win over the Seattle Seahawkson Saturday night. ''They can rival the Colts' defensive ends rightnow as fast as they can get off the ball.''The Broncos (2-1) sacked Jackson five times, with Miller gettingtwo and Dumervil 1 1/2, and knocked him around plenty of othertimes just as he got off the pass.''It's been a while since I've seen a pass rush like that, period,'' Champ Bailey said. ''And if we can keep that up all year,we're going to have a good year.''Dumervil missed all of last season after tearing a chest musclein training camp shortly after parlaying his 17-sack season into abig contract. The Broncos nose-dived without him, and they choseMiller out of Texas A&M with the second overall draft pick inApril.''Those guys did a great job,'' Jackson said. ''They came offthe ball. They were ready. They're some talented guys on the edge. That's what they do, they're very good at rushing the passer.''And the Seahawks played right into their hands without much of aground game.Miller has three sacks in the preseason and Dumervil is pickingup where he left off in 2009.''They were able to create some havoc,'' Mays said. ''So, todaywas a great day.''Except for the injuries. They lost Brodrick Bunkley to a right knee injury on a chopblock by Robert Gallery, and linebacker D.J. Williams to a sprainedright elbow.Williams, who has led the Broncos in tackles in three of thelast four seasons, had a sling on in the locker room and his armwas heavily taped up past the biceps. He said he'll be all rightbut didn't elaborate as far as a timetable for his return.Bunkley is the third run-suffer sidelined in the last two weeksfollowing injuries to starters Ty Warren and Marcus Thomas.Bunkley's teammate Kevin Vickerson was hot in the locker roomafterward, saying the chop block ''was just something that wasn'tcalled for, especially in the preseason.''Gallery insisted it was a clean play and said he'd do it thesame way the next time, too.''Look in the rule book. It was a completely legal block to me.The ref even said it,'' Gallery said. ''That's football. I'd do itagain. (I) don't like that he got hurt, but that was a completelylegal block and I'd do it 100 times again. Feel bad he got hurt, but that's football.''Bunkley, who said he wasn't seriously injured, declined to callout Gallery for a cheap shot.''It's the game, man,'' Bunkley said. ''We're in the trenches, and things like that are going to happen. I'm not going to sayanything is dirty. That's just the way the game is played.''Kyle Orton led Denver back from a shaky start with two TD drivesand Tim Tebow put the Broncos in position to win it after Jeff Reedtied it at 20 with a 53-yard field goal with 1:16 left inregulation. Tebow had a 19-yard scramble in leading the Broncosdownfield for Steven Haushka's 51-yarder as time expired. The highlight of the night for Seattle (1-2) was Doug Baldwin's105-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on a re-kick following anoffside call on Denver that moved the ball back to the 30. All 16of the previous kickoffs at Sports Authority Field this preseasonwere touchbacks. With Russell Okung out with an ankle injury, the Seahawks'starting left tackle was Tyler Polumbus, a former Broncos linemanwho was engaged with Dumervil in a 1-on-1 drill last summer whenDumervil's right pectoral muscle snapped during training camp, ending his season.Contending with Miller on the other side were two rookies: righttackle James Carpenter and right guard John Moffitt. It wasn't much of a contest.Seattle's starters finally scored on their 12th drive of thepreseason, on Reed's 52-yard field goal. Their first TD of thepreseason came on their final possession, when Jackson found tightend Dominique Byrd behind Denver's second-string defense for a1-yard TD connection in the fourth quarter.''We got some points on the board, so that was a good thing toshow the guys we can do it,'' Jackson said. After the first halfended with Denver leading 10-3 and Matt Prater's 69-yard field goalcoming up short, Orton guided an eight-play, 93-yard drive on theBroncos' first possession of the second half, ending it with a6-yard TD toss to Eric Decker.''We wanted to come out and play really well this week, reallyour last tuneup,'' Orton said. ''And after the way we started, tonot press, stay together, battle and grind one out is a great wayto go into the season.''Notes: Prater said he got excited about his 69-yard attempt anddidn't strike the ball correctly. ''I tried to overkick it and Ididn't kick it as good'' as his 57-yarder. Prater said he kicked a70-yarder in pregame. ... Seattle is 1-8 against Denver in thepreseason. ... Denver's first-team defense limited Seattle to 53yards on 30 plays. ... It will take a toll on his body. Hisproduction will decrease. It will catch up to him eventually. The Falcons running back laughs at allof this."It doesn't affect me," Turner said. "Carries are carries. Youcan't control the flow of the game. Different situations call forrun plays. I just have to go out there and be ready every time mynumber is called. I'm not going to try to save myself, just to tryto squeeze extra years out of this league."Turner signed with the Falcons as a free agent in 2008. Hehas been one of the top running backs in the NFL in his three yearsas a full-time player. He has rushed for 3,941 yards in his timewith the Falcons, and only the Titans' ChrisJohnson (4,598) and the Vikings' Adrian Peterson (4,441) haverushed for more.Turner has done it despite injury. He missed five games in 2009with an ankle problem. Last season, Turner played nearly the entireyear with a groin injury, one that required surgery in theoffseason. Was it a problem? Turner led the NFL in rushing attempts and wasthird in the league, and first in the NFC, with 1,371 yards. Hemade his second Pro Bowl. His 12 rushing touchdowns tied Petersonfor fourth in the NFL.Turner's 4.1 yards per carry was down from 2009 (4.9) and a dropfrom 2008 (4.5), the latter another Pro Bowl season with 1,699yards and an NFL-leading 376 attempts."It's just funny; your stats are down but you are a Pro Bowlstarter. ... What do you want me to do?" he said. "I'm just goingto go out there when my number is called. Coach is going to give methe ball, and I have to do something with it."Turner won't use the groin injury as an excuse. However, headmitted he was in pain and the protective wrap limited hisexplosiveness. He wasn't able to cut as sharply or as quickly. There were times when Turner ran out of bounds at the end of a playrather than take on an extra hit."I was surprised to hear he got it fixed in the offseason,"fullback Ovie Mughelli said. "I was like, 'Oh, you weren't 100percent?' If a guy with a groin situation can lead the NFC [inrushing], I'm scared to see what happens this year."The Falcons' offseason mantra called foran increase in explosive plays. The team traded up to draft widereceiver Julio Jones, adding him to an offense that includes ProBowlers Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez and a healthyHarry Douglas. The running game could be in for some big gains. In the past three seasons, Turner has 100 runs of 10 yards ormore, third behind Johnson (122) and Peterson (116). Last season,he had 15 of the Falcons' 20 rushes of 15 yards ormore."We are a run-first mentality," Turner said. "Explosive playsdon't necessarily come from the passing game. We want to run moreexplosive plays. I want to get that [number] up, too."With me being totally healthy, adding Julio [Jones], the otherthings we do on offense and with a healthy Harry Douglas, we have alot of weapons on the field. Hopefully those dimensions open upthings for me."Last season, Turner carried the ball 334 times, and he has 888carries with the Falcons. In four seasons with theChargers, as LaDainian Tomlinson's backup, Turner had just 228carries.The carries don't matter to Turner. Productivity does."I look at yards per carry, but I don't look at it like I'mgetting too many carries," Turner said. "I look at it as far as myproduction. I need to keep my production up."Mughelli is eager to see would-be tacklers try to bring down ahealthy Turner with arm tackles this season. Running backs coachGerald Brown says Turner can easily carry the ball more than 300times again. Coach Mike Smith expects more production."We were all aware of the situation that Michael was goingthrough last year in terms of his groin," Smith said. "To me, itjust validates what kind of guy he is. He's a tough guy. He's notgoing to complain. He's going to fight through injuries, dowhatever he has to do."We think he's in a better place this year than he was lastyear."Workhorse's heavy workloadYear Rushes Yards Avg. Long TDs Rec. Berrian had two catches for 64 yards and was targetedfour times in the first half of the exhibition game. For the new Vikings offense to work at its optimal level, theyneed Berrian to resume his role as the deep threat that helps takesome of the focus away from Harvin underneath and Adrian Petersonin the running game.''Bernard Berrian is really the guy we like to see be able to dothat for us,'' coach Leslie Frazier said. ''Michael Jenkins hasthat kind of capability as well but we're counting on Bernard to beable to make the type of plays he made on that first drive. If thatdoes happen for us, we have a chance to be an explosiveoffense.''That speed is the main reason the Vikings gave him a six-year,$42 million contract - with $16 million guaranteed - in 2008 tocome to Minnesota from Chicago. His first year was a success with48 catches for 964 yards and seven touchdowns. Berrian averaged20.1 yards per reception and scored a 99-yard TD to beat theBears. But as soon as Favre arrived on the scene, Berrian's role wasdrastically reduced. Berrian was slowed by a hamstring injury inthe 2009 preseason and never seemed to get on the same page withFavre, who helped turn Sidney Rice into a star by making him hisNo. 1 option.Berrian caught 55 passes in 2009, but averaged just 11.2 yardsper catch before falling completely off the map last season. Hemissed two games with injuries and had only 28 catches for 252yards and no touchdowns.Berrian told a local radio station during training camp that hethought Favre ignored him, especially in their second seasontogether. There was speculation that Berrian's job was in jeopardywhen training camp began, with the Vikings bringing in a bevy ofyoung receivers to challenge him for a roster spot. The Vikings are right up against the salary cap, but Berrianagreed to restructure his deal and seems to have cemented himselfalong with Harvin and Jenkins as locks to make the team. The chemistry with McNabb, who unlike Favre was present fortraining camp as well as the preseason, seems to be much better.New offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said it's been a point ofemphasis to make sure that Berrian doesn't get marginalized like hedid in previous seasons.''We worked that pretty hard this week,'' Musgrave said. ''Wewant to continue to have a good rapport between those two.''The week of practice carried over the game, when McNabb targetedBerrian four times in the first two quarters, including anotherdeep ball down the sideline that Berrian nearly hauled in overOrlando Scandrick.''Yeah it's been great,'' Berrian said. ''We both came into thisoffense at the same time so we both took ownership of it and aregrowing together and getting to know each other well from DayOne.''Said McNabb: ''We've got a great feel, but we're not at thepoint where we want to be. It's a growing process obviously. We'vebeen at this process for about four weeks and so were going tocontinue to work together.''With Rice gone to Seattle, it's even more imperative thatBerrian resume his game-breaker role. Harvin is more of a slotreceiver who excels on underneath routes and Jenkins is a biggerpossession receiver.''That's going to be huge,'' Peterson said. ''With losingSidney, the question was who is going to step up and become thatbig-play receiver down the field and stretching the field.''He's picked up the slack. Percy Harvin is out there doing agood job. (AP)The Arizona Cardinals are looking to sign former Kansas Cityquarterback Brodie Croyle after losing two of their backups toinjuries.General manager Rod Graves said Croyle was en route to Phoenixon Tuesday for a physical. Graves would not characterize theCardinals as close to adding Croyle but said he was the onlyquarterback Arizona was bringing in after backups John Skelton andMax Hall were injured.Skelton, the backup to starter Kevin Kolb, is in a walking bootto protect what coach Ken Whisenhunt says appears to be a highankle sprain. Hall partially dislocated his left shoulder inpractice on Monday. That left Kolb, who signed a five-year, $63 million contract -with $21 million guaranteed - and Rich Bartel as the team's onlyquarterbacks. Whisenhunt said the team would not go into Saturdaynight's home game against San Diego with just two quarterbacks, andCroyle is an obvious choice. He played for Todd Haley, Whisenhunt's former offensivecoordinator, at Kansas City, so the systems are extremelysimilar.Croyle was a third-round draft pick of the Chiefs out of Alabamain 2006. He appeared in 18 games in five seasons with Kansas City, nine of them in 2007, when he completed 57 percent of his passesfor 1,227 yards and six touchdowns, with six interceptions.Whisenhunt said Hall's injury, a subluxation or partialdislocation, is the same as the one that sidelined him late lastseason. Hall, in a fight to make the opening roster, was sent toPhoenix for further evaluation.Hall, a star high school quarterback in the Phoenix suburb ofMesa, made the Cardinals roster last year as an undrafted rookieout of BYU. He was quick to absorb the offense and when DerekAnderson faltered, Hall became the starter. Arizona upset NewOrleans in his first start, but he was 12 for 32 passing with threeinterceptions in his next two starts. After Hall had two picksreturned for touchdowns against Tampa Bay, Anderson returned butonly briefly.Skelton started the last four games of the season after Hallwent down with a shoulder injury against St. Louis.Plagued by a lack of arm strength to make the long passes, Hallwas running at No. 4 on the depth chart when he scrambled on a playand extended his left arm to the ground to catch his balance. Heleft the field holding his arm and in obvious pain.''It's unfortunate but that's part of the game,'' Whisenhuntsaid, ''and hopefully it's not something that will force him tomiss too much time.''Bartel was under contract to Cleveland and Washington but didn'tappear in an NFL game until after he joined the Cardinals in themiddle of last season. He directed a late drive in Arizona's 28-20loss at Green Bay on Friday night but threw an ill-advised passthat was intercepted in the end zone.''He's improved,'' Whisenhunt said. ''Without having anoffseason, he did some work on his own with the guys and he's donea very good job. Obviously I didn't like the interception at theend of the two-minute drive but he was very efficient up until thatpoint.''Skelton was injured in the Green Bay game.''It's looking a little bit more like a high ankle sprain,''Whisenhunt said, ''but I don't know how long that's going to be.He's making good progress. We'll see how it progresses, but there'snot a lot of swelling. He's got some soreness in there and we justwant to make sure because it's so critical to the quarterback, especially on his plant foot, driving and throwing off that foot.So we're going to obviously be a little bit more cautious withthat.''The Cardinals worked out Tuesday afternoon, leaving them onlythree more practices before leaving their training camp at NorthernArizona University - elevation 7,000 feet - and heading down to thedesert. As it turnsout, it was the last play of the season for Terrell Thomas, donebefore he ever started after suffering a devastating knee injurythat puts a dagger through the heart of the Giants defense."It ain't a bad dream we're going to wake up from," a somberJustin Tuck said last night. "It's reality." Reality took a cruelturn as the Giants beat up on the Bears 41-13 ina preseason game at New Meadowlands Stadium. That result looksgood, but felt bad for a team that is getting decimated atcornerback.Thomas, who teammates were convinced was poised for a ProBowlcaliber season, was injured just 22 seconds beforehalftime. He went down, got up, went down again, and walked off the field, appearing as if he had escaped serious injury after he collidedwith defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul as both were pursuing Bearsquarterback Jay Cutler. As it turned out, Thomas did not escape anything. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, willneed surgery and is through for the season.Just like that, the Giants lost their top cornerback andone of their most indispensible players."Part of the game that just makes you shake your head," coachTom Coughlin said. "One of those unexplainable things." It is acrushing blow to the Giants. Thomas, 26, seemed primedfor a huge year, coming off a breakthrough 2010 season in which hehad five interceptions and 101 tackles. He also had fiveinterceptions in 2009, the year he took over a starting job frominjured Aaron Ross and never gave it back. Now Ross, the Giants' first-round pick in 2007,will move up and regain a starting role entering the final year onhis contract. Michael Coe, who joined the team last season, willmove into Ross' nickel back role."That comes with the territory, now it's my job to fill in,"Ross said. "I'm ready to get back on the field; hopefully thecoaches have confidence in me still. I've been ready from day one,I'll take the challenge on. I'm ready to go." It has been aterrible summer for the Giants, who have seen theironce-robust cornerback position severely depleted.First-round pick Prince Amukamara broke a bone in his right footin his second practice of training camp and will be out at leastanother month. Bruce Johnson, a valuable reserve, ruptured hisAchilles tendon in camp, ending his season. After Thomas went down, another cornerback with a shot to makethe team, Brian Witherspoon, was forced out with what he said isdamage to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee."We have to address it," Coughlin said. "We just have to makesome decisions, whether or not there is anybody out there we canbring in and shuffle some guys around." Thomas also was enteringthe final year on his contract and was in line to become extremelywealthy.Thomas has been through this before. He tore the same ACL in2005 while playing at USC and was able to come back the nextseason. Now he will have to mount another comeback. He tweeted: "Without a test you have no testimony.God is good." The injury marred a strong showing by the Giants, who finally got theiroffense on track, although Eli Manning (8 of 16, 78 yards) wasn'tespecially sharp.Brandon Jacobs (6 carries, 48 yards) had an 18-yard touchdownrun, rookie linebacker Greg Jones blocked a punt that led to aDavid Carr scoring pass to Domenik Hixon and receiver Devin Thomasput some pizzazz into the return game, taking a kickoff out of theend zone for a 73-yard runback. Barnett is anewcomer to the dysfunction. He played on a Super Bowl winner lastyear. So you have to respect the guy for telling fans not to throwaway their season tickets. It's only preseason, after all, and waytoo early to give up on the team. But who could blame a Bills fan for bailing, when theorganization itself seems to have given up on this season? The Bills have some of the most loyalfans in sports. Their need to believe is always greater than thereality. But they're not stupid. They know when management issincere about winning, and when the guys in charge are whistling ahappy tune for public consumption. If they're serious about winning right now, why haven't theyaddressed that pathetic offensive line? Do they expect RyanFitzpatrick to take the next step as an NFL quarterback whilerunning for his life? And why in the world did they trade LeeEvans? The players were stunned when they heard that Evans had beenshipped to the Ravens for a fourth-round pick. Drayton Florenceasked on a tweet if they wanted to win now or later. Terrence McGeecalled it "a hard blow" and "all business." Imagine what the guyswere saying in private. The Bills saved $2.75 million in thedeal. That's fine. Saving money always matters when Ralph Wilson isinvolved. If the new regime wanted to build for the future andcontinue stripping away old parts, so be it. But why not wait untilsome contender suffers a major injury at receiver? You're tellingme they couldn't do better than a fourth for Evans?Evans' production slipped over the years. He was aone-dimensional threat who rarely went over the middle anddisappeared against the Pats. But Evans made a lot of big playshere. His presence allowed Stevie Johnson and Roscoe Parrish toemerge last season. If you think they're better off without him, you're delusional. They're worse.Buddy Nix said there was a "logjam of talent" at receiver. A lotof bodies isn't the same as being deep. Johnson has been a starterfor one year. No one else, including Parrish, has done it for afull season. The potential is there, but show some respect forEvans, who was among the top deep threats in the league during hisseven years in Buffalo. We'll find out in the coming months how deep they really are. From what I saw Saturday night, this Bills team is dangerously thin atsome key positions, and lacking in top-level talent all over thefield. That's what happens when you cut corners on salary and fillout a roster with marginal NFL players.Don't tell me it's only preseason. That meant something when theBills had Super Bowl talent. Butwhen you're a bad team, preseason tells you a lot. It certainlymattered in 2009, when the offense couldn't score and Turk Schonertgot fired. It mattered last year, when it became clear that the Bills had the worst linebackingcorps in the NFL.It mattered in Denver, where the Bills were soundly outplayed by amediocre Broncos team. Coach Chan Gailey admitted in a halftimeinterview that his offensive line had been manhandled. He lookedlike a man whose son had just backed the family car into atree.Demetrius Bell played like an EZ-Pass lane in Denver. He's thegood offensive tackle. Andy Levitre, one of the successful draftpicks, took reps at left tackle. Imagine how Fitzpatrick feelsabout all this. No new linemen, no Evans, no contract extension. That's some commitment.Marcell Dareus looks like the real deal. The run defense will bebetter. But the secondary isn't as good as people think. McGeelooks old. Leodis McKelvin looks lost at cornerback. It'sMcKelvin's fourth year. You'd think an 11th overall pick would beestablished by now.Someday, maybe they'll be shopping him for a fourth-rounder,too.e-mail: Cheap Brian Urlacher Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Outlet, Authentic Brian Urlacher Jersey, Brian Urlacher Authentic Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Authentic, Premier Brian Urlacher Jersey, Brian Urlacher Premier Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Premier, Replica Brian Urlacher Jersey, Brian Urlacher Replica Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Replica, Brian Urlacher Jersey Black, Danny Woodhead Authentic Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Authentic, Premier Danny Woodhead Jersey, Danny Woodhead Premier Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Premier, Replica Danny Woodhead Jersey, Danny Woodhead Replica Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Replica, Danny Woodhead Jersey Black, Danny Woodhead Jersey Blue, Darren McFadden Jersey Authentic UpdatedAug 24, 2011 12:26 AM ETEAST RUTHERFORD -- Plaxico Burress took a bow, and then showedoff his arm.It was quite a return to the NFL stage. The moment he had dreamed about for more than two years camelate in the second quarter Sunday night, when he hauled in a longfade pass from Mark Sanchez for a 26-yard touchdown. Burressbriefly bowed, then hurled the ball into the stands.Burress, who was released in June after spending 20 months inprison on a weapons charge, was the focal point of the Jets' 27-7 victory over Cincinnatiat a rain-soaked New Meadowlands Stadium. It was Burress' firstaction, as he sat out the preseason opener at Houston because of asprained left ankle. But on a wet artificial surface, Burress showed no lingeringsigns of injury, and looked a lot like the star he was forPittsburgh and the Giants. The 6-foot-5 wideout was targeted seventimes by Sanchez, and had three receptions for 66 yards and the onescore."He played great," coach Rex Ryan, speaking at halftime, said ofBurress. "Like I said, if we get the coverage a certain way, goodluck to you. He is a big target, and when he is covered he [still]is open."On the 26-yard touchdown Burress beat fifth-year journeymancornerback Fred Bennett, who was in for starter Leon Hall. TheBengals had a mixture of first- and second-stringers in for the99-yard drive by the Jets. Burress appeared to get awaywith a slight push-off on the play, which gave the Jets a 17-7 lead with 51 secondsleft in the first half."I felt like I was moving in slow motion a bit," Burress said athalftime. "I was looking up and at the end of the play, I was rightthere where I was supposed to be. ... It is a work in progress. ...It is going to come. This is what the preseason is for."Sanchez, who played the first half before being relieved by GregMcElroy, was 12-for-20 for 173 yards with two touchdowns. But the Jets str***led on third downs, converting only 2-of-8 with Sanchez at the controls."We have to be a little better on third downs offensively," Ryansaid.Cincinnati's first turnover set up the game's first score. Ahigh pass by rookie quarterback Andy Dalton went off the fingertipsof A.J. Green, and Eric Smith intercepted at the Bengals' 45. Hereturned it 7 yards and then lateraled to Darrelle Revis, who tookthe ball another 22 yards to the 16.On the next play, Sanchez fired a 16-yard touchdown pass toSantonio Holmes on a slant for a 7-0 lead.Dalton's second interception came on an overthrow of intendedreceiver Andre Caldwell. The ball sailed into the hands of safetyJim Leonhard, who went 35 yards to the Cincinnati 10. But the Jets' red-zone woes of a year agoreturned as Sanchez overthrew Burress on first down and the Jets didn't take another shot at theend zone. Nick Novak kicked a 30-yard field goal for a 10-0 Jets' advantage with 6:22 left inthe first quarter.Dalton warmed up considerably on a drive that began late in thefirst quarter. He connected on six of eight passes for 68 yardsduring an 11-play, 70-yard march that resulted in a 1-yardtouchdown squirm by former Rutgers star Brian Leonard, cutting thedeficit to 10-7 with 13:02 left in the half. Leonard also had thekey play in the drive, a 33-yard catch-and-run to the Jets' 14.BRIEFS: Nick Folk had a 50-yard field goal for the Jets in the third quarter. ...Numerous Jets sat out because of injury, including RB Shonn Greene (skin infection), RG Brandon Moore (hip),LB Bart Scott (leg), NT Sione Pouha (knee), LB Calvin Pace (groin)and WR Derrick Mason (knee).E-mail: pelzman@northjersey.com

The preseason record doesn't mean anything, but it does show that the Rams depth has gotten deeper. The Rams backups are balling out there and some of these players could be good contributors when their name is called. This is probably the best team in a long time depth-wise.The starters are a different story. They didn't look that good against the Titans. It's a good thing that this is a preseason game and not a regular season game. The Rams are using a pretty "vanilla" playbook during the preseason. You wouldn't expect them to put their cards out there scheme-wise, but the starters could have played better. After Bradford's long bomb to Brandon Gibson, the Rams first team offense didn't look good. If you thought that the Rams starters were going to put together a long drive this game, you were alsodisappointed. The defense had a few miscues that resulted in easy first downs and points. In their defense, the Rams offense put them in bad positions. With all that being said, it's still preseason. These kind of mistakes are common. Most of the miscues on offense and defense can be fixed with time and practice. The defense will be the easiest to fix, their problem was mostly miscues by the starting linebackers.. The offense, however, will need a lot more time to gel. McDaniels' playbook might be explosive, but it will take sometime for all of the players to get it down. The good news is that the Rams still have two more preseason games to get it right. Down below are the five things you should take away from the game. 1. The run defense shouldn't be a big deal.It looked real bad Saturday. However the defensive line did a good job for the most part. You can't expect the defensive line to play great the whole game. Yes they did get pushed back some, but the linebackers are supposed to help. Cut backs really hurt the Rams defense and most of the time the first team linebackers didn't respond. Of course, they will do their best to keep James Laurinaitisoccupied, but that's why you have three linebackers and not one. The Rams are now working Brady Poppinga and Ben Leber with the starters. Those two players should give the Rams the upgrade they need on defense.2. The new offense seems like it will be excitingIt's not just because of the long pass from Sam Bradford to Brandon Gibson. Just look at the different sets that the Rams have run the last two games. The Rams ran a spread, a three WR set, a three TE set just to name a few. Then the Rams will adjust their offense to whoever they are playing. All those factors should make this offense more exciting. The Rams don't have the best weapons, but they aren't bad. The biggest difference is that you can tell that the flow of the offense will be morevariedthan last seasons.3. The widereceiverrace isn't as exciting as advertised.Right now, the race looks just like it did during training camp. Right now it looks like Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola are the only locks. Could one of the two rookies get cut? Some people are saying that, but you won't hear me saying it .Mike Sims-Walker most likely will be a starter with Brandon Gibson. Everyone else is fighting to get a spot. It's still a close logjam at WR. A case can be made for any of the WR's to make the team or be cut.4. The Rams secondary looks impressive. The secondary looks real strong this offseason. It doesn't look like the Rams will miss O.J, becauseQuintin Mikell has looked real impressive the first two games of the preseason. He is real smart and a good run supporter. The Rams paid a lot of money to bring Mikel in and it looks like he will be worth every penny. The corners look good also. Bringing Al Harris looks like it was a great idea. Justin King worries me, good in run coverage, but hasn't looked good covering. Ron Bartell and Bradley Fletcher are picking up where they left off. Craig Dahl looks like he will start, but Darian Stewart has really looked good this preseason.5. The offensive line still needs work.Okay, not trying to overreact. Sam Bradford called most if not all of the pass protections, so you can't put all the blame on the offensive line. With that being said, they did have a lot of breakdowns. Those breakdowns should be fixed when they have more time to gel. The run blocking also had me concerned, tt looked real 2010ish against the Titans.Jacob Bell didn't play, but he isn't a good run blocker. Let's just say it would be more encouraging if the Rams O-Line is impressive against the Chiefs. The Rams played 16 games with their starting O-Line last season. That was good, but injures do happen. Let's hope that they play better than they did against the Titans.Dallas Cowboys Jersey, Official Dallas Cowboys Jersey, Cowboys Jersey, Customized Dallas Cowboys Jersey, custom Cowboys Jersey, Customized Cowboys Jersey, custom Dallas Cowboys Jersey, Free Shipping DeMarcus Ware Jersey, Official DeMarcus Ware Jersey, DeMarcus Ware Jersey Free shipping, Orleans Saints Jersey, Cheap New Orleans Saints Jersey, New Orleans Saints Jersey Outlet, Customized New Orleans Saints Jersey, custom Saints Jersey, Customized Saints Jersey, custom New Orleans Saints Jersey, Free Shipping Chris Ivory Jersey, Cheap Chris Ivory Jersey, Authentic Chris Ivory Jersey, Authentic Jerod Mayo JerseyUpdatedAug 20, 2011 6:27 AM ETPITTSBURGH - If the fallout from Michael Vick's GQinterview and the subsequent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers prove anything,it's that the Eagles will be in the crosshairs."That comes along with the territory," Vick said after Thursdaynight's 24-14 preseason defeat. "But we accept thatchallenge. It's not going to be easy. Each and everySunday, it's not going to be easy."This is a tough game, and every week you've got tobring your "A" game, and if you don't, you'regoing to be embarrassed."The first team was embarrassed in the first half. The Eagleswere outgained, 262-71, in total yards, outscored, 21-0, andcommitted three turnovers to Pittsburgh's zero.Vick's three interceptions accounted for all of thefirst-half giveaways. Earlier Thursday, he issued a statement thatRoger Goodell did not influence his decision to sign with theEagles in August 2009. A GQ profile of the quarterback implies thatthe NFL commissioner steered Vick to Philadelphia. He was asked whether the commotion affected his performanceagainst the Steelers."Not at all," Vick said. "Once I was in the game, the issue wasjust pressing to put points on the board."Coach Andy Reid concurred, saying, "Because he wasn'tthe only one."Still, Vick str***led. And the three interceptions underscore aproblem that plagued him late last season. In Vick's firstsix games in 2010, he had zero turnovers. In the next six, he hadnine."I was forcing throws that I wouldn't normally[force]," Vick said of his 5-of-12 passing Thursday night. On the Eagles' first play from scrimmage, DeSeanJackson - playing in his first preseason game - ran a deep route.Even though he was thoroughly covered, Vick went for the receiverand overthrew him."It's going to be even tougher if we try and come outevery week on our first play and try to get a big one, sincewe've been known to do that over the last couple ofyears," Jackson said. With all the hype surrounding the team - some of itself-produced, some created by the media - after notable free-agentadditions, the Eagles admitted that they were knocked down a fewpegs in the Steelers game."We feel like we have a great team," Vick said. "We are capableof doing some big things this coming season. We are in a veryhumble state right now. . . . We got a piece of humble pie."Muck in the middleThe returns on Casey Matthews' performance Thursdaynight at middle linebacker weren't positive, but therookie said he wasn't discouraged."I feel pretty good out there," Matthews said after the game."Obviously, I finally got some action. I think I touched the floortoday. But I felt more comfortable out there."He recorded two solo tackles and an assist but often had troublefending off blocks by offensive linemen who were able to get pastthe Eagles' defensive tackles during run plays. When Matthews opened training camp as the starting middlelinebacker, few expected him to remain there. Rookies already werebehind due to the NFL lockout. But he has started both preseasongames. The question is whether he will start a third.Jamar Chaney started two regular-season games and a playoff gamelast season at middle linebacker, but he now is playingstrong-side."I'm down for whatever they want me to do," Chaneysaid. The Mississippi native spent virtually allwinter and spring in Buffalo, training to get ready for his secondNFL season. The result was a 20-pound gain in muscle and a reshaped body fora player the Bills hope will make an impact thisseason. Carrington is carrying 305 pounds and has shown so muchmobility that the Bills started giving him snaps as arush linebacker the past week.He is one of the young players to watch tonight when the Bills play their second exhibitiongame against the Broncos in Denver. The Bills' top pass-rusher, ShawneMerriman, is being held out tonight as a precaution. He has a minorleg ailment but could play if it was a regular-season game, coachChan Gailey said. That will give some of the younger pass rushers, like Carrington, Danny Batten and Antonio Coleman, moreopportunity. In the wake of the release of former No. 1 draft pickAaron Maybin, the Bills desperately need one of theiryoung rushmen to show something. If Merriman goes down during theseason, where do the Bills get their pass rush? The preseason opener in Chicago last week offered some hope.Batten had two sacks. Carrington had one and pushed the pocketwell."I have a little more weight on me, and it helps get a littleedge on my opponent," Carrington said this week. "I was 285 lastseason. This weight helps me. I've been fluctuating from 305 to 310to 300."A big jump in conditioning level is typical for motivatedplayers in their second NFL season, after a year of improved dietand exercise."In college you eat a lot of Ramen noodles," Carrington said. "Ireally started eating right when I started training for thecombine. I learned when to eat and what to eat, and it has helpedme out a lot."On his offseason diet, Carrington said: "I was eating the rightthings and getting plenty of protein. I ate a lot of chicken. I atethree good meals and I supplemented them with two or three proteinshakes a day and then ate a lot of parfaits with all-natural yogurtand berries. There's probably 40 grams of protein in eachshake."He worked out at both a local YMCA and at Body Blocks FitnessCenter in downtown Buffalo."They've got a good program, and it's hard work, too,"Carrington said.Carrington has very long arms and natural strength. He lifted225 pounds 26 times before last year's draft. (Powerful MarcellDareus bench-pressed 24 repetitions this year.) That combinationgives him good ability to press the pass blocker into the backfieldbefore trying to disengage. At 305 pounds, Carrington is theprototypical 3-4 defensive end."I believe I can do a good job setting the edge," Carringtonsaid, in reference to stopping off-tackle runs. "Hand placement isa big part of that, and having the right angle of attack. We'veworked on that. Bob Sanders [outside linebackers coach] is doing areally good job coaching us."The Bills think Carrington might bemobile enough to make an impact as a stand-up outside linebacker, which is why he has seen snaps there in practice and why he hasworked with Sanders.Carrington could be a handful lining up on the strong-side, overthe tight end."It's unsettling to see somebody that big out there," said Bills tight end Scott Chandler."You look and see a guy who's 300 pounds instead of 275. He's not atypical outside linebacker. Any time you're 25 pounds bigger thananybody else and stronger than anybody else, he sets a good edgeout there.""He's doing a really nice job of rush outside," Gailey said."You're only going to show him every now and then dropping. That'snot what he does. You do it just enough to create indecisionsometimes. He's a big load on the edge, and he's got good speed fora man his size. He's been an interesting project during the courseof camp."Carrington played about 12.5 snaps a game last year. Expect thatnumber to rise, whether he proves himself at outside backer ornot."I don't really think I've lost a step from gaining the weight,"he said. ''He can go get it,'' Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie.''I've hit him on a couple. He looks impressive going to get thedeep ball.'' After the additions of Roy Williams and Sam Hurd, the Bears have a lot of depth atreceiver, unlike last year. But undrafted rookies Adams and DaneSanzenbacher have distinguished themselves. ''I just want to come out and practice hard,'' Adams said.''I'm trying to make a spot on the team. So I just want to show what I can do andmove up on the depth chart and play well in the preseason games. Soif I don't get a shot here, it will open up other opportunities.'' Adams said the playbook was difficult at first, but he'sgotten used to it. Currently, Adams plays the same position(flanker) as Devin Hester. Sanzenbacher has an edge because heplays in the slot, behind Earl Bennett. But both Adams and Sanzenbacher need to assert themselves onspecial teams. ''I'm on kickoff return, and I'm a gunner on punts,'' Adamssaid. ''I'm trying to get some opportunities there in the preseasongames.'' O-line progresses Veteran offensive lineman Frank Omiyale said the biggestchallenge for his unit is communication. ''As long as we're all on the same page, we all work good, then the play will work like it's supposed to,'' he said. ''That'swhat we're working on. We should be good.'' Omiyale stressed patience but said he expected the line toplay better against the New York Giants than it did against theBills. Part of the reason, he said, is because the Giants play a4-3 (four defensive linemen, three linebackers) defense. ''That should make it easier,'' he said. ''But we'll justhave to see.'' Williams said finding an identity is a key for the offenseas a whole. ''I'm sure by Week 1 we'll have to have an identity, sometype of 'who we are,' '' he said. ''It's going to be a great testagainst the Giants. They've got some great ends, some goodlinebackers and a good secondary. ''Who are we? The Raiders couldn't stop the runagainst the 49ers on Saturday night, and more important, they lostquarterback Jason Campbell late in the first half.Campbell was knocked out of the game with 2:44 left in thesecond quarter, after taking a knee to the helmet. He said he wasdizzy, didn't return in the 17-3 loss at Candlestick Park and willget tested for a concussion in the coming days."I'm just glad I'm all right," Campbell said. "We'll see how thetests go and what the trainers say, and take it from there."Campbell took some big shots last season and had three stingers- injuries that affect the nerves in the neck and shoulder region -but said this felt totally different. On Saturday night, Campbell was trying to escape pressure whenhe fumbled the ball. As he was reaching down for it, he took a hardhit from linebacker Ahmad Brooks near his left shoulder. Heremained on the turf for a couple of minutes before slowly walkingoff the field.Trent Edwards came in and would throw an ugly interception intodouble coverage at the San Francisco 20 with 47 seconds left in thehalf. The fact that Kyle Boller came in at quarterback to start thethird quarter was a coincidence, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said. Thetwo are battling for the No. 2 job, and the plan was always to haveBoller play the second half. The Raiders 0-2 were lucky to be downonly 10-0 at halftime, as their first-team defense gave up 226yards, 100 rushing on 20 carries. Linebacker Rolando McClain had aninterception off a botched field-goal attempt, and defensive endMatt Shaughnessy also had an unlikely pick. He dropped back incoverage on a zone blitz, and Alex Smith never saw him when hethrew for Vernon Davis with nine seconds left in the firstquarter.Still, Jackson wasn't in any mood to look on the brightside."Obviously the practice performance hasn't met the on-fieldperformance, and that's what I gotta get done," Jackson said."That's my job. I will get that fixed. ... I'm not putting this onour players just yet."Campbell finished the night 5-for-7 for 74 yards, missing anopen Kevin Boss when the Raiders were stopped four times fromthe 2-yard line early in the second quarter.Edwards was 3-for-6 for 36 yards. The Raiders got down to the 12-yard linelate in the second quarter but had back-to-back penalties onlinemen Daniel Loper hands to face and Cooper Carlisle holding pushthem back to the 32. After an incomplete pass, Edwards had all daybut forced a throw for Derek Hagan into double coverage, which waspicked off by Tarell Brown.Boller 6-for-11 for 56 yards also threw an interception, leavinga touch pass for fullback Manase Tonga short in the third quarter.Madieu Williams hauled it in for the 49ers at their 40-yard linewith less than four minutes left in the third quarter.Replica Danny Woodhead Jersey, Danny Woodhead Replica Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Replica, Danny Woodhead Jersey Black, Danny Woodhead Jersey Blue, Danny Woodhead Jersey Red, Danny Woodhead Jersey White, Patriots Danny Woodhead Jersey, Reebok Danny Woodhead Jersey, NFL Danny Woodhead Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey 42, Danny Woodhead Stitched Jersey, Patriots Danny Woodhead Jersey, Patriots Danny Woodhead Authentic Jersey, Patriots Danny Woodhead Premier Jersey, Wes Welker Jersey On sale, Wes Welker Jersey Free shipping, cheap Wes Welker Jersey, Cheap Chad Ochocinco Jersey, Chad Ochocinco Jersey Outlet, Kirby Puckett Throwback Jersey CHICAGO -- For the first time in the past week, Paul Konerko finally felt some improvement on Friday with the sore left calf and knee that has bothered him since being hit by a pitch on July 31.Konerko, who missed the team's next three games and has since been limited to a designated hitter role, said he hopes to return to playing first base by Tuesday, but without being able to test it on the team's off-day on Monday, manager Ozzie Guillen said a more reasonable target is Wednesday. "I doubt PK's back on Tuesday. I hope he does, but I doubt it because I'm not coming Monday to hit ground balls to him to see how he feels," Guillen said jokingly before adding, "I'm not going to push this kid. I don't want Custom Yankees Jersey one problem to become another problem. He's giving us enough already the way he is right now and, as a manager, you have to respect that and appreciate that."As for Saturday, Konerko was in the lineup as the designated hitter, Kent Hrbek Throwback Jersey batting third. Entering Saturday's game, he had recorded at least one hit in all nine of his games at DH since injuring the leg, going 11-for-33 with one home run and four RBIs during that time."If you can play on it, for my situation I can hit on it -- not really run on it or do anything else -- but for this point in the season and what I can offer, I can get in there and get my four at-bats or five at-bats to try to help the team," Konerko said. "For me, it's not like when I'm 100 percent healthy I'm really out there running around much anyway." Pierzynski sidelined by bruised left wrist CHICAGO -- White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who left Friday night's game with a bruised left Custom Tigers Jersey wrist after being hit by a pitch, was not in the starting lineup for Saturday night's contest with the Royals. He is also unlikely to play in Sunday's series finale. With the Royals starting left-hander Jeff Francis on Sunday and the White Sox having an off-day on Monday, manager Ozzie Guillen said the plan is to have Pierzynski back behind the plate for Tuesday's Custom Phillies Jersey series opener against the Indians."A.J.'s not playing today and I don't expect him to play [Sunday]," Guillen said. "But [Sunday's] a lefty, so it's a little easier. He should be ready for Tuesday's game."Before leaving Friday's game in the middle of the fifth, Pierzynski recorded Custom Cardinals Jersey the White Sox only hit off Bruce Chen in the left-hander's six innings. The injury-shortened night ended the catcher's streak of four straight multi-hit games. However, his first-inning single extended his overall hitting streak to five games, during which Pierzynski is 11-for-18 (.611). He was replaced in Saturday's lineup by Tyler Flowers, who made his fourth start since being called up from Triple-A Charlotte after backup catcher Ramon Castro broke his right hand on July 9 against the Twins. Entering Saturday, Flowers was hitting .154 (2-for-13) this season and .150 (6-for-40) in his young career. Dunn unavailable for rest of Royals series CHICAGO -- Adam Dunn was out of the lineup for the second straight game on Saturday and will also miss Sunday's series finale against the Royals as he tends to a family matter, manager Ozzie Guillen said."Dunn has some family issues," Guillen said. "He should be back -- I told him he's not playing [Sunday] either -- but he should be back Tuesday."In his place, Brent Lillibridge made his fourth career start at first base on Saturday, as the utility man continues to adjust to the latest position added to his arsenal. With Paul Konerko still nursing a left calf and knee injury that has relegated him to DH duties and Dunn continuing to str***le at the plate, Guillen also called on Lillibridge to start at first for one game each in Minnesota and Baltimore last week.Entering Saturday's game, Lillibridge had yet to make an error this season while playing each of the outfield positions, second base and now first base, as he continues to learn the latest one on the fly by taking pre-game infield practice."He's a great athlete," Konerko said. "For the Harmon Killebrew Throwback Jersey most part, a guy like him who can play the infield and the outfield, and move well, most guys like that can pull it off pretty easily." Lineup shuffle pays dividends for Custom Giants Jersey Sox CHICAGO -- The White Sox lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals wasn't what most fans would have imagined for a mid-August divisional game when the 2011 campaign began. But while four opening day starters -- catcher A.J. Pierzynski, designated hitter Adam Dunn, center fielder Alex Rios and second baseman Gordon Beckham -- were all out of the lineup, guys like Tyler Flowers, Brent Lillibridge and Alejandro De Aza stepped in and contributed to the White Sox 5-4 victory. After the Royals used a four-run fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead, Flowers immediately answered with his first Major League home Kirby Puckett Throwback Jersey run to lead off the bottom of the inning and pull the White Sox to within one. Then, after the White Sox had tied the game at 4, De Aza worked a four-pitch, bases loaded walk, forcing in Omar Vizquel for the winning run."He kept us close in the game," Guillen said of Flowers' blast. "The way we were swinging the bats on the road, we got shut down [Saturday] and we lose A.J., so to Bert Blyleven Throwback Jersey have [Flowers] contribute to today's game, it was huge. This kid, we know he can catch, but he contributed with the bat, that's a plus."While Pierzynski was out with a bruised left wrist and Dunn was addressing a family matter, manager Ozzie Guillen was simply giving Rios and Beckham the day off and said both will be back in the lineup on Sunday. Third to first • Since allowing one earned run in back-to-back games in Kansas City on July 19-20, Chris Sale has nine straight scoreless appearances, spanning 12 2/3 innings.• After Saturday's start, Jake Peavy has gone 44 straight innings without allowing a home run. The last long ball he served up was on June 30 in Colorado.• Juan Pierre stole his 547th base in the third inning, tying him with Bill Dahlen for 27th on the all-time list. John Kruk Throwback JerseyCINCINNATI -- With more than 40 games left on the schedule, Cameron Maybin has already put together the best season of his Major League career. After Saturday's Yogi Berra Throwback Jersey game, he had career highs in steals (30), runs (61), doubles (16), triples (six), RBIs (31) and walks (32). His .276 average is also a personal best, his limited 2008 season with Florida Mike Schmidt Throwback Jersey notwithstanding (Maybin hit .500 in 32 at-bats that season). Maybin, perhaps, been most valuable on the base paths. He is fourth in the National League in steals and has more or less been given the green light by Bud Black."I think, in general, players need to have that freedom if they have the ability to run, which he does," Black said. "There are some guidelines within our structure of base stealing, but with Cam, he knows those guidelines. But it's open-ended. When a guy has the desire to steal, when a guy feels he can steal on certain pitches or pitchers, I think that's a great thing to give him that creativeness." Once considered among the top prospects in baseball, Maybin needs three home runs to become the fourth Padre in franchise history to collect 10 homers and 30 steals in one season. The others to do so are Tony Gwynn (1986), Steve Finley (1995) and Reggie Sanders (1999). Guzman day-to-day with tweaked elbow CINCINNATI -- San Diego first baseman Jesus Guzman is day-to-day with soreness in his left elbow. Guzman tweaked the elbow while attempting to snare a bunt in a 5-3 loss to the Reds on Friday night. Padres manager Bud Black said Guzman would not take batting practice before Saturday's game but may be available to pinch-hit. Guzman also saw his 12-game hitting streak snapped after going 0-4 Friday night. He hit .408 (20-for-49) during the streak and is hitting .338 in 43 games this year. Since Mitch Williams Throwback Jersey the All-Star break, he's batting .371 (33-for-89) with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 27 games. "He's a solid hitter," Dave Cash Throwback Jersey Black said. "Nobody can predict the future -- so let's [not] try -- but he's going to be given an opportunity here for the rest of the season to get at-bats, to continue to show us what he can do." Black not worried about bullpen's slump CINCINNATI -- The three runs allowed by San Diego reliever Josh Spence in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Reds were the first runs he's given up since the All-Star break. It was just the second time all season that Spence has failed to work a scoreless appearance. "In the bullpen, you're going to lose games, you're going to win games -- but it's really about how you do tomorrow," Padres closer Heath Bell said. "The question is, Can you come back? Can Spence come back today, walk [Joey] Votto and face [Jay] Bruce? The older guys who have been around five or six years, they can do that. Guys who have been around understand you're going to lose some games. Just don't lose a bunch of games."Spence, 23, has a 1.61 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 22.1 innings over 26 games."There's no way this kid needs to be treated with kid gloves," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He's a very bright kid, he's able to handle instruction, he's able to Richie Ashburn Throwback Jersey handle teachings -- he's very solid mentally."Spence's blown save was San Diego's third this week. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time since 2005 that San Diego has blown three saves and lost during a five-game stretch. Nevertheless, San Diego remains third in the National League in bullpen ERA (2.98)."Every great hitter goes through a little slump, and I think every great pitching staff goes through a little slump," Bell said. "I don't know how many weeks are in a baseball season, but you've got six months. We've played five, and we've only had one bad week. I think that's pretty good." Hundley has eighth career three-hit outing CINCINNATI -- Friday's 3-for-3 performance against the Reds marked the eighth three-hit game of catcher Nick Hundley's John Kruk Throwback Jersey career -- he's had seven in the past two years."It was really great to see Nick come back and have the game he did," Bud Black said.He has one Dave Hollins Throwback Jersey four-hit game in his career, which came in a 6-1 win against San Francisco on April 12, 2009. Hundley hit a home run in his first at-bat off Reds starter Bronson Arroyo; it was Hundley's fourth in 46 games this year and his first since April 17 against Houston. He Pete Rose Throwback Jersey hit eight home runs in a career-high 85 games last season. Worth noting • Outfielder Chris Denorfia is headed to Triple-A Tucson on Sunday Jimmy Foxx Throwback Jersey to begin a rehab assignment. Denorfia has been on the disabled list since Aug. 1 with a strained right hamstring. • Tim Stauffer has allowed eight home runs in his previous two starts, becoming the first Padre to ever do so. Since 2006, five other pitchers -- Dan Haren, Josh Beckett, Carl Pavano, Jamie Moyer and Carlos Silva Greg Luzinski Throwback Jersey -- have allowed eight home runs over a two-game stretch. Vince Coleman Throwback JerseyCHICAGO -- Adam Dunn was out of the lineup for the second straight game on Saturday and will also miss Sunday's series finale Willie McGee Throwback Jersey against the Royals as he tends to a family matter, manager Ozzie Guillen said."Dunn has some family issues," Guillen said. "He should be back -- I told him he's not playing [Sunday] either -- but he should be back Tuesday."In his place, Brent Lillibridge made his fourth career start at first base on Saturday, as the utility Willie Mays Throwback Jersey man continues to adjust to the latest position added to his arsenal. With Paul Konerko still nursing a left calf and knee injury that has relegated him to DH duties and Dunn continuing to str***le at the plate, Guillen also called on Lillibridge to start at first for one game each in Minnesota and Baltimore last week.Entering Saturday's game, Lillibridge had yet to make an error this season while playing each Tim McCarver Throwback Jersey of the outfield positions, second base and now first Stan Musial Throwback Jersey base, as he continues to learn the latest one on the fly by taking pre-game infield practice."He's a great athlete," Konerko said. "For the most part, a guy like him who can play the infield and the outfield, and move well, most guys like that can pull it off pretty easily." Pierzynski sidelined by bruised left wrist CHICAGO -- White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who left Friday night's game with a bruised left wrist after being hit by a pitch, was not in the starting lineup for Keith Hernandez Throwback Jersey Saturday night's contest with the Royals. He is also unlikely to play in Sunday's series finale. With the Royals starting left-hander Jeff Francis on Sunday and the White Sox having an off-day on Monday, manager Ozzie Guillen said the plan is to have Pierzynski back behind the plate for Tuesday's series opener against the Indians."A.J.'s not playing today and I don't expect him to play [Sunday]," Guillen said. Konerko closer Willie McCovey Throwback Jersey to resuming field work CHICAGO -- For the first time in the past week, Paul Konerko finally felt some improvement on Friday with the sore left calf and knee that has bothered him since being hit by a pitch on July 31.Konerko, who missed the team's next three games and has since been limited to a designated hitter role, said he hopes to return to playing first base by Tuesday, but without being able to test it on the team's Lou Brock Throwback Jersey off-day on Monday, manager Ozzie Guillen said a more reasonable target is Wednesday. The last long ball he served up was on June 30 in Colorado.• Juan Pierre stole his 547th base in the third inning, tying him with Bill Dahlen for 27th on the all-time list. Tug McGraw Throwback Jersey CLEVELAND -- Shin-Soo Choo had one hit in his return from the disabled list Friday night, and that was one more hit than he had in eight at-bats (six official and two washed out by rain) in three games at Class A Lake County this week."I was pretty impressed the way he swung the bat last night," Indians manager Manny Acta said, "for a guy who only had six rehab at-bats."Choo was back in the leadoff spot again on Saturday night, and how long he remains there could be tied to how quickly Michael Brantley gets back into action. But while expectations for what Choo can contribute given the time lost to a broken left thumb and the str***les he had endured in the first half may be tempered, the Indians are, at the least, encouraged by what they've seen from Choo the last few days."At the beginning of the batting practice he was taking [last week], he wasn't letting it go," Acta said. "We wanted to make sure he was able to take batting practice the way he has before we made the decision. That's what he did before that last game that he played over there [in Lake County]."Acta said the Indians will have to give Choo a day off here and there, but Monday's off-day should come at a good time for him.In the midst of returning to the Royal Daulton Throwback Jersey Majors, Choo is still waiting on the birth of his first daughter. Choo joked that he asked his wife, Won Mi Ha, not to go into labor while he's in the batter's box, because after missing so much time, every at-bat is precious. Brantley hopes to avoid DL, return Tuesday CLEVELAND -- Michael Brantley said there was a "possibility" he'd be ready to rejoin the Indians lineup as soon as Sunday. Unfortunately for Brantley and the Tribe, the disabled list also remains a possibility.Manager Manny Acta said the Indians hope Monday's off-day will combine with the medication Brantley is taking to address soreness in his right wrist to allow Brantley to return in time for Tuesday's series opener in Chicago against the White Sox. But if Brantley isn't able to play Tuesday, it appears likely he's headed to the DL."If by then the medicine hasn't kicked in and he's Tony Gwynn Throwback Jersey not ready to play," Acta said, "then we're probably going to have to make a decision."Should Brantley end up on the DL, the move would be retroactive to Friday, rather than Tuesday (the last time he started a game), because he pinch-ran in Friday's 3-2 win over the Twins.Brantley said Barry Bonds Throwback Jersey his rehab work has him "moving in the right direction," but it's clear the wrist issue that has bothered him for more than a week remains a pressing concern. With Brantley out of the picture, Acta has made the surprise move of having Shin-Soo Choo bat in Robin Roberts Throwback Jersey the leadoff spot in each of the first two games against the Twins this weekend."[Brantley] is not getting better as quick as we might want," Acta said. "We've done the MRI and everything. It's nothing that serious. But it's still bothering him. He's taking medication, and it's just a matter of time before he heals."Brantley has a .270/.323/.390 slash line with seven homers, 13 steals and 44 RBIs in 107 games this season. Santana feeling better at the plate CLEVELAND -- Be it because of a sound knee or sound mechanics, the Indians are starting to get the kind of production they expected Steve Carlton Throwback Jersey out of Carlos Santana.Santana entered Saturday night with a .375 (12-for-32) average, three homers, four doubles, 12 RBIs and a 1.214 OPS in his previous eight games, dating back to Aug. 4 in Boston."I feel much more relaxed," Santana said. "The start of the season was difficult because my knee was not 100 percent and had done nothing in winter ball because I was rehabbing in Arizona. But I feel much better now."Manny Acta's not really buying the knee rationale. He watches the switch-hitting Santana's at-bats and sees a much better approach. It showed in his game-tying RBI double on Friday night, when the Twins brought in left-hander Glen Perkins to turn Santana around and have him bat from the right-hand side, where he's hit for a higher average but less power this season. Santana ripped the double to the opposite field in right-center. "That's what Matt Williams Throwback Jersey has gotten him going the last couple of months," Acta said. "When he's going good, he can use the whole field. He has str***led from the left side because he has Tim McCarver Throwback Jersey gotten pull happy. He rolls over a lot of balls. But when he's using the whole field, he can be very good. From the right side, he's been doing it. That was a huge hit."As a left-handed hitter, Santana was batting just .210 (56-for-267) but has 15 homers, 13 doubles and 40 RBIs. From the right-hand side, he was batting .301 (37-for-123) with three homers, 10 doubles and 19 RBIs. Smoke signals • Second baseman Jason Kipnis, who has a .333 average with six homers and 10 RBIs over his last 12 games, was given the day off on Saturday after battling some sickness and general wear and tear. In fact, he didn't show up to Progressive Field until 5:30 p.m., thereby missing batting practice altogether. "Kipnis is just a little banged-up," manager Manny Acta said. "He's been playing a lot of games and diving all over the place. He needed a day off." Third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was also rested against Twins lefty Brian Duensing.• Justin Masterson (two runs on five hits over 7 2/3 innings) pitched well on Friday night after the short break between Dave Dravecky Throwback Jersey his two innings of work against the Tigers on Tuesday. A two-hour rain delay prevented Masterson from coming out for a third inning against Detroit, so Acta opted to bring him back just a few days later. Acta said he wouldn't have done that for just anybody. "If it is your main guy, you want to do it," Acta said. "If it's a guy who Tug McGraw Throwback Jersey has an 8.00 ERA, you might want to say, 'You know Mel Ott Throwback Jersey what? You just pitched, so your turn is in five days.'"• The Indians announced the signings of three more First-Year Player Draft picks Saturday -- seventh-round selection Eric Haase, a catcher out of Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Mich., 13th-rounder Zachary MacPhee, a shortstop out of Arizona State, and 19th-round pick Shawn Morimando, a left-hander from Ocean Lakes (Va.) High School. The Tribe has signed 26 of its 50 picks. The deadline to sign all picks is Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.• Friday night marked the Indians' American League-leading 19th win in their last at-bat. <- Last Page :: Next Page -> |
